Brief description of the product/ technology:
iGest is based on an inertial motion unit (IMU) that records a person's gesture. It is being designed to be worn as a wrist watch, and will capture the location and rotation of the arm. Similarly, we imagine it being worn as an armband or around the shins. iGest works in two modes, record and store, or record and transmit. This allows a physiotherapist to prescribe a range of movements, for the user to practice them, and then for the physiotherapist to review the actions. The user can also transmit the data wirelessly to a computer, tablet or smartphone, and receive feedback on the accuracy of the gesture.
We can imagine creating a number of games around the iGest, to encourage children to perform a range of movements. iGest can also aid in providing feedback on posture. iGest is envisaged as a consumer product, but designed keeping in minds persons with disability.
